World Cup Foodbank Bingo!

14th June 2018

Farnworth and Kearsley Foodbank is asking local people to support their crucial work in the community by donating most-needed items and funds as part of World Cup Foodbank Bingo between 14th June and 15th July.

Individuals, community groups, schools and work places are all being invited to take part, following the matches and donating when one of the events in a square on the bingo sheet takes place. When donations have been collected, people should contact the foodbank to arrange delivery.

Between April 2017 and March 2018, Farnworth and Kearsley Foodbank, which is a member of The Trussell Trust’s network, provided three day emergency food supplies to 4077 people in crisis; 1743 of these went to children.

Alex Malone, Farnworth and Kearsley Foodbank manager, explains,

“We’re only able to provide vital emergency support to local people because of the help the community offers – we’re always so grateful for your willingness to get involved, and hope that you’ll be interested this summer in helping us tackle hunger in our communities, one match at a time.

“During the summer, we sometimes see our stocks squeezed as donating routines can change during the holidays, but unfortunately we don’t see the need for the foodbank drop at the same time, so it’s really important to be able to keep up those donations. We’d love for you to be involved in our World Cup Foodbank Bingo to do exactly that this summer and ensure everyone referred to us for emergency food receives vital help – thank you so much for all of your support.”

The foodbank receives no permanent funding and relies on the generosity of the local community to cover running costs which include warehouse space, to sort and stock donated food, a van to pick up donated food and deliver to distribution centres, and other overheads like utilities and insurances. The foodbank welcomes any new offers of help with funding – local businesses, organisations and individuals interested in supporting the foodbank’s work can find out more by contacting us.
